Selkie Swims for Love (aka Mary McCormic-McInnis)
On Saturday, August 16th, I am participating for the first time in the 2025 Arms Around Bainbridge Around-the-Island Swim Relay.
I will be swimming from Fletcher Bay to Battlepoint (1.6 miles) to help raise funds for members of our Bainbridge Island community who are facing financial hardship due to illness. My sister, Sarah, will be paddling alongside me.
I am swimming in memory of my sweet little mom, Anina Marie McCormic, who left this world very recently, on August 2nd, and in memory of our dear dad, Bob Keith McCormic who died three years ago.
Mom and Dad both delighted in my Salish Sea swim stories and photos that I shared with them and others through my blog, and though they didn’t join me in the cold waters, they now join me upon the waves-- diamonds on the water–holding me afloat as I swim along among the seaweed and seals, over moon snails and rock crab, around jellyfish and barnacles.
I am swimming for my love of them, in thanks for the love they gave me and in gratitude to all of the family members, friends, doctors, nurses and caregivers that stayed by their sides (and ours) as they both suffered from terminal illnesses.
I hope to raise as much money as possible to help other Bainbridge Islander neighbors and friends weather the financial burden of chronic or terminal Illness through gifts from Arms Around Bainbridge.
Please support Arms Around Bainbridge by making a donation today.
In love and gratitude,
Mary
